Premier League recap - Southampton goes bang as Tottenham slip

Southampton doesn’t want to be a team to fall into a relegation battle as they had Nicky Banger and David Speedie scoring doubles as Southampton smashed Norwich at home by a score of 5-0 to get the team off the bottom of the table while also recording their first win on the board for the season. They weren’t the only one who got five past the opposing keeper with Manchester City getting a 5-1 win over Tottenham with David White scoring a hat-trick in the 5-1 victory despite Gordon Durie scoring the opening goal of the game for Tottenham.

Another tight happened over at QPR’s home ground where they were held to a 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest as they were outplayed against a much more fancier opponent in Nottingham as they lead by a single point over Manchester City.

There was also wins for Everton, Chelsea, Wimbledon, Sheffield Wednesday while Arsenal missed a golden opportunity to help their team avoid a relegation fate as they could only muster up a 0-0 draw.

Coca-Cola Cup recap - First Round (Leg 1)

The first English Cup of the season started today with the first leg of the Coca-Cola Cup being played between 2nd and 3rd tier sides. With this being two legs for some teams, it will be vital to get off to a winning start.

We first head over to Bournemouth home's ground as they took on the fellow second-tier side in Rotherham and Bournemouth will be holding a one-goal advantage heading into the second leg after goals from Paul Wood and Sean O'Driscoll gave Bournemouth the victory. But Rotherham will be hoping that they can get a win at home after scoring a late consolation goal coming from Shaun Goather. While in the other division two battle, it was a 0-0 draw between Southend and Notts County.

Most of the battles between second tier and third tier sides went in favour of the second tier sides but not in the game between Preston North End and Reading with Preston North End who are currently 3rd in the league taking a two-goal lead heading into the second leg as they had three different goalscorers in the win over Reading.

There was also wins for Wigan and Hull City against other third-tier sides.

Premier League recap - Hat-trick has been created.

Midweek fixtures are sometimes a pain to play and for all of England that was exactly the case with the twenty teams having to play their first mid-week fixtures of the new league. The big news to come from the mid-week fixtures coming at Highbury with Vincent Samways becoming the first person to score a hat-trick in the Premier League as he led Tottenham to a 3-2 win over Arsenal in what was a disappointing day for PÃ¥l Lydersen.

But the main match of the midweek was between Leeds and Manchester United with the teams being first and second in the previous season. With the battle firmly in the balance, it was Lee Chapman who scored for Leeds United as he gave the champions, their first points on the board with a 1-0 win. The other Manchester team in City got themselves two from 2 with a 2-1 win over Ipswich as they were joined with QPR and Nottingham Forest who also got wins to join them on six points.
