Premier League Recap - Sheffield Wednesday open a gap

We start our recap of the Premier League recap action in Sheffield with Sheffield Wednesday now opening up a two-point advantage over QPR after they got a 2-0 win over Southampton. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing with Paul Warhurst having to limp off the field after a tackle went wrong. QPR couldn’t get something to stick in their game against Everton which meant that they go into a group with Nottingham Forest and Leeds United as they both received wins against their opposing teams.

In the relegation race, Manchester United got their first win of the season to get them out of the relegation after they defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 with Ryan Giggs and Eric Cantona getting the goals. That meant that they would push Sheffield United down into the relegation bubble with them losing at home to Aston Villa. Wimbledon had a day that they would rather forget after Hans Segers let four goals through the net as Chelsea dominated the run of play with the different goal scorers.

There was also wins for Tottenham and Liverpool while Manchester City and Arsenal both drew in their game.

Hans Serger had a day he would rather forget as he let four through.

Coca-Cola Cup - Round 2 (Leg 1)

The first leg of the second round was played today for the League Cup and for most of the higher divisions teams, it went according to the script with them getting a win over their opponent. Of course, not everything went according to the script with Coventry being one of the higher divisions teams to lose as they lost from a substitution against Bradford with Scott Patridge being the goal scorer there.

Other results that were noticeable did include:
  • Hartlepool winning 2-0 over second-tier side Portsmouth at home

Premier League recap - Manchester United still struggling

For Manchester United, they will be wondering what is going on with the team after another draw kept the team on the bottom of the table with only four points to their name after finishing with a nil-all draw against Aston Villa. What also didn’t help was that Sheffield United recorded their first win of the year with a 1-0 win over fellow relegation strugglers in Coventry.

On the other end of the scale, we have Sheffield Wednesday who got another win to keep them ahead of QPR in the title race after they defeated Everton 1-0 with Graham Hyde getting the goal to take the match. Les Ferdinand guided QPR to a win over Southampton. Another 1-0 result came in Nottingham with the home team defeating Liverpool to be only two points behind QPR.

There was also wins for Leeds United and Blackburn as they continued to chase down the teams that are on top.

UEFA Cup review - Round 1 (Leg 1)

The first round of the UEFA competitions has started today with the UEFA Cup first leg taking place with England having four teams in the first round but for all of them, they will be behind heading into the second leg.

Arsenal headed over to the Netherlands where a masterpiece from one of the Heerenveen attackers saw the team win 3-1 over Arsenal. What didn’t help was the fact that Tony Adams got to send off from the field after injuring one of their players. Aston Villa couldn’t hold their one-goal advantage that they had in the first half as they would concede two goals against Widzew Lodz from Poland.

Manchester City and Liverpool were the other teams competing in the first round and both of them would end with 1-0 defeats over Bordeaux (FRA) and Hajdur (YUG) respectively and the possible worry that all four teams could fall in the first round.
